The USA and genocide in Iraq. Is this possible?
There are many observers of the Iraq war that claim that the USA is committing
genocide in Iraq. That the USA is systematically killing Iraqis for an unknown
political reason.
What is genocide exactly?
The Encyclopedia Britannica lists “genocide” as:
“The deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group”
what is destruction?
1) The state or fact of being destroyed, ruin.
2) The action or process of destroying something
3) A destroying agency
This is currently occurring in Iraq. The USA is not participating in an overt open genocide
as was seen during WW2 by Hitler. To understand why and for what reasons the USA is
currently committing these actions in Iraq we have to wipe from our minds this “antiquated”
idea of genocide most of us have.To deliberately undertake the actions of “systematic
destruction of a racial…group” it isn’t necessary to gas your victims all in one go as the
Germans did. Genocidal warfare can be committed in “smarter” more effective ways, and the
USA realizes this. They are currently undertaking genocide in Iraq, through the slow bleeding
death of Iraq’s future, its youngest population, the children. To eliminate a countries
future population, is to create an aged, impoverished population. You then essentially
destroy a country for 2, or 3 generations, essentially 150 years or more. To put this in perspective
Australia as a british colony is 217 years old.
Firstly let’s clarify a typical rebuttal that most supporters of the war on Iraq put forward.
Yes, Iraq has already committed genocide under Saddam. The notion that Saddam committed
Genocide, or at least attempted to commit genocide IS NOT an excuse for the actions the US
is currently taking.
To eliminate, kill and “free” a nation from a tyrant using the tyrants own means is the most
illogical argument ever conceived to support the war on Iraq.
Either way if supporters of this line of thought wish to continue to take this road we
can look further towards the past of Iraq’s political history and find out that:
1)24 other nations benefited from the death of Kurds, Iraqis, and Iranians.
These 24 nations sold chemical weapons to Iraq. Within the list of 24 countries
lie Germany, USA, Japan, Israel and Britain to name just a few.
2)These countries PROFITED and then turned their backs on these killings.
rummy and dummy, US hypocrisy at it's finest.
The Iran Iraq war was supported by these nations through the sales of armaments to Iran and
Iraq but only after reports of atrocities did these nations jump to a “surprised and
disgusted” stance. It could even be suggested that these countries were participants in this
early genocide by Saddam. The following link is what should have occurred to all participants
involved in the sales of armaments to Iraq and Iran.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4360137.stm
100,000 thousand people died in this chemical attack. Currently
www.iraqbodycount.net lists the deaths caused by “casualties of war” at roughly 19,600. This
figure does not include deaths by DU, Hunger, disease or the multitude of other consequents
of war.
John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org told USA 60 Minutes that the uncounted casualty
figure "would have to be somewhere in the ballpark of over 20, maybe 30,000". This would be
a “casualties of war” only figure. Include within this as mentioned other forms of death which
are just as important and www.rethinkingschools.org/war/pdfs/stat173.pdf suggests figures of
248,000 to 460,000 deaths in Iraq. This is still an extremely low number considering that by
1997 the UN reported that over 1.2 million Iraqis had died since the Gulf war as a result of
medical shortages, including 750,000 children below the age of five. Two years later UNICEF
found that 4,000 to 6,000 Iraqi children under five were dying each month due to sanctions –
again to put the child figure in perspective these deaths equate to
A World Trade Center catastrophe every 30 days!
It is predicted that child deaths in Iraq are 40% to 50%, again it is impossible to put this
figure down to an absolute accurate, although these percentages and figures give you an idea
of the severity of the killings. Again, DU deaths are a large problem that will not go away.
Long after the war DU will continue to kill, and more importantly contaminate the DNA of Iraqis
future children, mothers and fathers, which will in turn lean to more births with DNA mutations.
GENOCIDE:
“The deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group”
Remember genocide is the systematic action, the attempt to destroy also. Genocide is not just
the final outcome, but it is classified as genocide if there was an attempt.
DESTRUCTION:
1) The state or fact of being destroyed, ruin.
2) The action or process of destroying something
3) A destroying agency
But the USA did not openly aim to kill civilians?!
Quite simply they did. The USA disregarded the Geneva conventions of war (in itself a war
crime!!). The US military bombed non military targets, such as hospitals, markets, schools,
mosques, electricity plants and water facilities. Here are some quotes:
In the July 8-14, 1991 issue of the Washington Post Weekly, Col. John A. Warden II, deputy
directory of strategy, doctrine and plans for the Air Force, admitted the strategy (bombing
Iraqi electricity supplies) was designed to tighten the U.S. stranglehold over Iraq:
"Saddam Hussein cannot restore his own electricity. He needs help. If there are political
objectives that the UN coalition has, it can say, 'Saddam, when you agree to do these things,
we will allow people to come in and fix your electricity.' It gives us long term leverage."
THIS IS ILLEGAL! THE USA HAS SUPPORTED THE GENEVA CONVENTION. IT IS NOT OK, OR
SUFFICIENT TO DISREGARD IT NOW. To disregard the Geneva Convention is tantamount to
disregarding the USA’s bill of rights. Either the nation lives by it or disowns it forever. If the latter is
the case they can be considered a rogue state by the rest of the world
Here is another quote from an Iraqi relief official. A person in the front line, seeing the
deaths daily:
"Since the war Iraqi children have been exposed to biological warfare, massive
biological warfare. When you destroy the infrastructure of a country, sewage with all its
germs will flow into the streets; you stop pure water from reaching the children; you give
them malnutrition; you prevent medicines from reaching the country. So it's an excellent
environment for death and disease." - Iraqi relief official
Since then, U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency documents have surfaced showing that the U.S.
deliberately destroyed Iraq's water system by bombing dams and water and sewage facilities.
Without electrical power Iraqis cannot get enough clean water, and sewage goes untreated
leading to sharp increases in death and disease. These actions again, are illegal and
contravene the Geneva Convention. To attack a non military site is illegal.
Genocide can also be committed through the mental and psychological destruction of the citizens
in general. A psychologically unfit person cannot function properly, and the problems are
endless. Psychological genocide and the destruction of a nation mentally and spiritually are
just as dangerous and harmful as a physical bomb itself:
"I have a son 5 years old. During the air raid he was shaking, shivering, saying 'Bush is
coming, Bush is coming.' After the ceasefire American airplanes were flying over Baghdad,
crossing the sound barrier, making this explosive sound, frightening the children, and
writing with blue smoke, 'USA.' What was the purpose except frightening Iraqi children?"
- Dr. Ameed Hamid, Director, Iraq's Red Crescent Society
Saddam openly killed approx 100,000 victims. IT WAS RIGHTFULLY CALLED GENOCIDE. The USA
in only 2 years in “casualties of war” figures alone killed 19,600. It is predicted they will
kill 248,000 to 460,000.
GENOCIDE: “The deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group”
To eliminate Saddam, then kill and simultaniously “free” a nation from a tyrant using the tyrants
own means is the most illogical argument ever conceived to support the war on Iraq.
You would have to classify what the USA is doing as genocide.
